About Us
The Somali-Language AI and Innovation Lab (SAIL) is a research and innovation center established under Jamhuriya University of Science and Technology (JUST). The lab was created to advance artificial intelligence technologies that support and empower the Somali language and Somali-speaking communities.
In the modern digital world, artificial intelligence plays a critical role in communication, education, business, and governance. However, many global AI systems primarily support major world languages, leaving African languages, including Somali, significantly underrepresented.
SAIL combines academic research, practical innovation, and capacity building to position Somalia as an active contributor to global AI development rather than only a consumer of foreign technologies.
